Ian fits genuine AGA parts wherever safety depends on them, which means burners, jets, thermostats, flame failure devices, valves and ignition parts. They're made for the specific model, and a part with slightly different tolerances can affect combustion. He also fits genuine parts on anything under warranty, since a non-genuine part can give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim, and on older cast-iron cookers, where parts vary by year and fuel type.

Shelves, door handles, lid liners, thermometers and some seals don't affect safety, so a good part from a reputable independent supplier is a reasonable choice there and often costs less. On older models where genuine parts are no longer made, specialist suppliers and reconditioned parts are often the only way to keep the cooker going.
